PRINTS & FRAMING
THE PRINTING PROCESS
What is Giclée Fine Art Printing ?
The word ‘Giclée’ was coined in the 1990s and is derived from the French phrase, ‘gicler,’ which translates as ‘to squirt’ or ‘spray’ (inspired by how the printer nozzle applies the ink pigments to the paper). The terms ‘Giclée Prints’ or ‘pigment prints’ refer to a print made using an inkjet printer as an output device.
Our Giclée Fine Art printing is archival grade and offers intense colour and vibrancy.
The photography lab I use to produce my Giclée Fine Art prints use one of the finest large format professional printers available; the Epson SureColour p2000. Epson’s highly pigmented UltraChrome PRO pigment-inks produce Giclée Fine Art prints with the widest possible gamut. Even subtle shadows and highlights are visible when printing in black and white. New research from the Willhelm Institute suggests prints printed using Epson UltraChrome PRO Inks can have a lifespan of up to 400 years +, depending on a range of factors, including the media used and storage conditions. Pigment-based inks also ensure that prints are less susceptible to water damage because the tiny ink particles are water-resistant.
About the photographic paper.
My prints are printed on Hahnemühle’s Fine Art Baryta paper, a white 325gsm 100% a-cellulose paper with a high-gloss finish. The barium inkjet coating ensures this paper is a genuine replacement for traditional Baryta papers from analogue laboratories. Fine Art Baryta meets the highest industry standards regarding density, colour gamut, colour graduation and image sharpness.
* I know it is super tempting to open your print when it is delivered to have a look, however, I strongly advise you do not handle it and take it directly to a reputable framer who will be experienced in handling delicate artworks and will frame it to ensure it stays pristine.
About the picture frames.
The frames are from sustainable sources that meet environmental, social and economic needs for both the present and future, as certified by the FSC scheme.
*PLEASE NOTE - IF YOU ORDER YOUR PICTURE IN A1 SIZE & FRAMED - THE WINDOW WILL BE HIGH QUALITY 3MM CLEAR ACRYLIC (NOT GLASS) TO PREVENT DAMAGE DURING TRANSIT.
